China's First Discovered Dinosaur

Dec. 24, 2019

China is the world's most important source of dinosaur fossils. Yunnan, Sichuan Dashanpu, Northeast China, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and other places are famous for unearthing a large number of dinosaur fossils. Among them, Sichuan Dashanpu is the largest dinosaur land in China below. The Dinosaur Costumes supplier introduces the first dinosaur discovered in China.

Heilongjiang's status in China's dinosaur world is unshakable, because the earliest named dinosaur fossils in China were discovered from Heilongjiang. Local farmers accidentally found dinosaur fossils when they built their houses. This small village is Yu Liangzi, Jiayin County, Heilongjiang Province. The earliest dinosaur found in China, Manchusaurus, was unearthed here.

This village is located on the shore of Heilongjiang. The strata along the shore are constantly being eroded by the water. When the villagers went to the river to find the stones to build a house, the buried fossils were gradually exposed on the river bank. The villagers have never seen such a large bone, and are very surprised. After the news was known by the Russian colonel Manakin on the other side, he sent people to collect fossils. At the beginning, he thought that this was part of the mammoth. From 1915 to 1918, the Soviet Geological Commission sent people to this site for exploration. All the excavated specimens were finally transported to St. Petersburg, including the bones of the Manchurian dragon. The Museum Dinosaur Skeleton can only be seen at the museum. The name Manchurian Dragon was proposed by Soviet paleontologist Yabinin in 1931, and the name is still in use today.

Scientists processed these fossils and stored them in the Geological Museum in St. Petersburg after racking them. Studies have shown that Manchurian dragons belong to the duck-billed dragon family. The duck-billed dragon is a younger member of the dinosaur family. Is a type of vegetarian dinosaur that feeds on plants. Manchurian dragon's two huge hind legs and long tail constitute a tripod-like device, enough to support its bulky body. The Manchurian dragon is about 8 meters in length, and stands up for about 4.5 meters. Manchurian dragons have short forelimbs that hang from the upper part of the body and can grab leaves freely.

Like other members of the duck-billed dragon family, Manzhoulong's mouth is flat, with hundreds of small teeth in it. These teeth resemble slender prisms, layer by layer. When the teeth in the upper layer are worn away, the teeth in the lower layer will grow out and replenish, so Manzhoulong can efficiently grind fiber food, which is why it adapts to the late Cretaceous ecological environment.

As those soft fern families have faded, thicker-fiber, stiff gymnosperms and angiosperms have begun to dominate the earth's vegetation. Although the earliest discovered Manchurian dragon fossils are now preserved in Russia, in the 1970s, Chinese scientists excavated many Manchurian dragon fossils in the same location. Now to see the true features of Manzhoulong, just go to the Heilongjiang Museum!
