The prehistoric reptiles known as dinosaurs appeared about 230 million years ago during the Triassic period of the Middle and Late Mesozoic. They were members of a subclass of reptiles called the main dragons ("ruling reptiles"), which also included birds and crocodiles.

T-REX

Scientists first began studying dinosaurs in the 1820s when they discovered the bones of a large land reptile they called Megalosaurus ("the great lizard") buried in the English countryside. in 1842, the famous British paleontologist Sir Richard Owen first coined the term "dinosaur " term. Owen examined the skeletons of three different creatures - the gargoyle, the iguana ("iguana teeth") and the iguana ("woodland lizard"). Each of them lived on land, were larger than any extant reptile, walked with their legs directly under their bodies rather than on their sides, and had three more vertebrae in their hips than any other known reptile. Based on this information, Owen determined that the three formed a special group of reptiles, which he named dinosaurs. The word comes from the ancient Greek words deinos ("terrible") and sauros ("lizard" or "reptile").

Did you know? Although dinosaurs no longer walk the earth as they did in the Mesozoic era, distinct traces of these giant reptiles can be found in their modern descendants: birds.

Since then, dinosaur fossils have been found around the world and studied by paleontologists to learn more about the many different types of these creatures that existed. Scientists have traditionally divided the dinosaur group into two orders: the "bird-rumped" ornithischians and the "lizard-rumped" lizard-rumped. Since then, dinosaurs have been broken down into many genera (such as Tyrannosaurus or Triceratops), and each genus has been broken down into one or more species. Some dinosaurs were bipedal, which means they walked on two legs. Some walked on all four legs (quadrupeds), and some were able to switch between these two ways of walking. Some dinosaurs were covered with a kind of body armor, and some may have had feathers, like their modern bird relatives. Some moved quickly, while others were clumsy and slow. Most dinosaurs were herbivores or plant eaters.

At the time of the dinosaurs, all of Earth's continents were joined together to form a single land mass, now called Pangaea, and were surrounded by a vast ocean. During the early Jurassic period (about 200 million years ago), the Pangaea began to break up into separate continents, and dinosaurs would have seen the world they lived in change dramatically over the course of their existence.

PTEROSAURIA

Dinosaurs mysteriously disappeared at the end of the Cretaceous period, about 65 million years ago. Many other types of animals, as well as many species of plants, went extinct around the same time, and there are many competing theories about what caused this mass extinction. In addition to the tremendous volcanic or tectonic activity that occurred at that time, scientists have found that a giant asteroid struck the Earth about 65.5 million years ago, landing with the force of 180 trillion tons of TNT and spreading vast amounts of volcanic ash across the Earth's surface. Without water and sunlight, plants and algae would have died, killing off Earth's herbivores; after surviving on these herbivore carcasses for some time, the carnivores would have become extinct as well.

Although dinosaurs no longer walk the Earth as they did in the Mesozoic era, visible traces of these giant reptiles can be found in their modern descendants: birds. Dinosaurs also continue to exist in paleontological research, and new information about them is constantly being discovered. Finally, judging by their frequent appearances in movies and on television, dinosaurs firmly occupy a realm in the popular imagination that is not in danger of extinction.

Today we can see realistic dinosaurs from the real world, thanks to the continuous research of scientists on their history. People have taken their fantasies of a world tens of millions of years ago and expressed them through dinosaur prop costumes and large sculptures. The success of the Jurassic World film series also shows people's interest in dinosaurs and their love for them. You can contact GENGU to find more realistic animatronic dinosaur models and experience what the earth looked like in ancient times; you can also hold the puppet dinosaur toys in your arms and feel their cuteness.
